We found this interesting Paracotalpa granicollis (a kind of scarab beetle) in the dirt of our So. Cal backyard in April 2012. Which is weird because according to the all-knowing Internet, random websites only say this species is found in Utah or nearby states. Taken in direct sunlight with the Canon PowerShot SX40 HS at 1/500s, f/4, 25.5mm (yes, very close focus), ISO: 100.
